Following sell-out seasons at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2014 and 2015, and acclaimed seasons at London’s iconic Soho Theatre, the award-winning Gein’s Family Giftshop is hitting the road in 2016 for their debut UK tour, including a visit to Darlington.
The group, which specialises in dark comedy in the mould of League of Gentlemen, is made up of Kath Hughes, Edward Easton, James Meehan and Kiri Pritchard-Mclean and has been gigging for just over three years. They met whilst studying at The University of Salford.
Their first two years have been phenomenally successful. Winners of the London Sketchfest 2014 Best New Sketch Act and Audience Choice Award, as well as Chortle Best Newcomer Award 2015, and Noise Festival Curator’s Choice Award Winners, they were also nominated for the Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Award Best Newcomer and Chortle Best Sketch Act Award.
They were invited to appear in the second series of Inside No. 9 after Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton saw their debut show. Their writing talents also led to them being commissioned to write a three-part series for BBC Radio Wales, which was transmitted during the summer of 2015.
